GAIL PATRICIA McCARTY

OBITUARY

Gail Patricia McCarty was born on April 23, 1945, in Detroit, Michigan to Catherine and Grant Washington, Sr. She accepted Christ as her personal Savior at Union Second Baptist Church in Southwest Detroit, Michigan.

Gail was educated in the Detroit Public School Systems. She attended Frances G. Boynton School, a Mark Twain School for Scholars, and Southwestern High School. While in Detroit, Gail was a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church, serving as an usher for more than 40 years. She participated in theatrical stage-plays, attended, and completed the Unity Bible Institute, and served as the church financial secretary to support the Pastor and Trustee Department.

In 1967, Gail Patricia married Richard L. Heard and they produced two lovely daughters together, DeMeasa and Wanie. This union lasted for several years. Gail earned her associate degree in science in 1982. In 1984, Gail attended Marygrove College. In 1984, she earned her Associates of Science in Nursing Degree from Wayne County Community College. In 1987, Gail graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. In 1989, Gail earned her Master of Science in Health Services Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy.

After completing higher education, Gail worked at many hospitals throughout the Detroit area including Aurora Healthcare Psychiatric Hospital (Patient Coordinator, 1993-1998), Renaissance Hospital (Nurse Consultant, 1998-2000), St. John Hospital (Charge Nurse, 2002) Oakwood Hospital (Surgical Nurse, 2002-2003), Home Care Alliance (Home Care Psychiatric Care, 2003- 2006), Detroit Medical Center (Oncology Nurse, 2005-2006), and Rawson-Neal Psychiatric Hospital (Psychiatric Nurse, 2006-2009). Gail worked her way up from a Licensed Practical Nurse to a Registered Nurse all the way up to a Chief Operating Officer at New Center Hospital.

 On August 20, 1976, Gail married Jerome McCarty and from this union two additional lovely twin daughters were born, Malikah and Khalilah.  Gail along with her husband, Jerome McCarty relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada where she worked at Rawson-Neal Psychiatric hospital as a behavioral health nurse.

Gail leaves to cherish her memories: four daughters (DeMeasa Heard-Pitra, Duana Malone, Malikah Ulrich, Khalilah White), 2 grandsons (Meahel Heard-Pitra and Kaiden White), a son-inlaw, Lamon Ulrich, two brothers, Grant Washington and Gary Washington. One sister and two brothers preceded her in death (Saundra Washington, Rayburn Washington and Jerome Washington) Her husband Jerome McCarty, preceded her in death. Her ex-husband (Richard Larry Heard) and one son-in law preceded her in death (Carlton Malone) and a host of nieces and nephews.

2 Timothy 4:7-8

7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: 8Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing.

Thank you to everyone who took time out to offer a kind word, comment on social media, mail a card, sing a song, say a prayer or sent flowers. No matter what the deed we appreciate your love and heartfelt gestures to extend to our family during this season.
